Exotic foreigner dies in illegal duel

The normally drab affair at Lady Elizabeth’s manor was shaken up by a dramatic confrontation between Lord Caleb Andretti and the handsome exotic philanthropist Carlos (no last name given). Lord Andretti claimed that Carlos was a murderer from Bellerophon responsible for the death of Corvo Andretti.

On the following morning Carlos and Caleb met at the swordsman field, an infamous setting for duels on Persephone. Carlos suffered numerous grievous wounds and was near death before he knocked Caleb seemingly unconscious. At the last moment Caleb raised his blade and impaled his opponent. Carlos was declared dead at the scene by an anonymous Shepherd and his body taken to white chapel hospital. Persephone mourns the passing of a generous and exotically handsome gentleman.

A nervous man paces in his apartment, he hears footsteps at his door. He dashes to the window hoping to escape.

Cut to mysterious Kid figure in the alley.

The Kid kicks a dumpster, sending it rolling to a stop under him. A coin is flicked into the man’s forehead causing him to fall into the open dumpster.

Kid: Looks like its trash day

The Kid shoulders an anti-air rocket launcher, takes aim and fires.

The ship is hit and a single box falls out of the large hole in the hold and crashes through the roof of the Sheriff’s jail.

I suppose it is something of a miracle that we have survived to be able to keep logs. Nonetheless, we managed to escape the core with our lives.

Following the senator’s assassination, I was separated from the crew. During my attempted escape, I was picked up by policemen, who escorted me to the local jailhouse. This being a core world, resisting seemed unwise, and these men were clearly looking for me. I assumed that I would be interrogated by Alliance Intelligence. It was to my detriment that I had not yet realized the depth of the trouble that I was in.

It was only through the intervention of Colonel Windsor that I was rescued. She revealed to me the truth. The Alliance has decided to disavow all knowledge of me, despite that I had correctly followed all operating procedures. While this episode is a serious mark against me, it seems clear that I’ve been chosen to serve as a scapegoat. Demotion, even court-martial would have been in accordance with regulations. Instead, I suspect that if I’m ever caught, my fate will be an unmarked grave.

Perhaps it is ironic that the Alliance is attempting to kill one of the few surviving daughters of Shadow. Or perhaps not.

After parting ways with Colonel Windsor, I was able to establish contact with the crew. We were able to obtain the necessary codes and clearances to transfer the Shadow. While doing this, we spent a number of days at a brothel. Following standard procedures, I changed my appearance, so that I now believe I am unrecognisable to most casual acquaintances, the only kind I have left. I also indulged in the female prostitutes there. I suppose that no longer being an Alliance officer, I am no longer required to suppress such desires.

We were later forced to flee the brothel, but we were able to sneak into the holding area, recover the ship and escape without being caught into any sort of confrontation, the only good news from this escapade.

My responsibility to keep my crew safe is my current, and only, motivation. After all, they do not know the truth of the roles they were hired into. I fear I have endangered their lives without their knowledge. Now I must keep them safe from both my former masters, and from Niska. Furthermore, without Alliance support, and having spent most of my funds on-world, I now find myself compelled to seek whatever work we are offered. At least the crew has not yet asked many questions about my now-former role, though I fear that can only be coming.

And myself? I suppose it says something that it was only when I was cut loose, and not when my home, my family, and everything I loved was destroyed, that I finally decided to turn against the Alliance. For the moment, I intend to adopt a new identity, a process already begun with my makeover, and lay as low as possible for as long as possible. The verse is too small to avoid my fate forever, though.

Finally, I have relieved crewman Winters of his log-keeping duty. I feel this is better for his long-term mental health.

Tuesday, I think.
Maybe Wednesday, I dunno.

Some folks say it’s good to write things down in a journal, so guess I’m doing that now. Cap’s orders.

Had to go to a gorram park to see some gorram politician. Spent most of my time on the outskirts of the park shouting at people about Sin or something. Never did like parks, far too sunny, cheery people walking around, talking. Makes my head hurt.

Next thing I know, gorram politician’s head explodes like a gorram cantaloupe and everyone is freaking out and shouting, running every which way. Managed to get Mr. Fancypants’ attention and we hightailed it out of there back to the hotel we were stashed at. Started clearing that place up, don’t want no Alliance crawling up my ass later on. I’ve dealt with enough of their gorram whiny shit in the War. The Kid was on the lookout, noticed some Alliance showing up, and we got out of there, hit the rooftop parkade and stuck my head in some hovercar’s hood.

Had a nice engine, JPL8770, with dual coolant exchange. Decent amount of power, pretty high performance. Personally, would have gone with a JPL8670, not as much power, but you could drive it through hell and back without that thing failing. Didn’t notice the upgraded security system though, caused some ruckus but we got out of there.

Hit the shipyard to get the hell out of here, turns out our gorram ship has been transferred to an Alliance Shipyard by the Cap. Now I got nothing against women or anything, but how do you fudge things up enough to get a ship transferred by accident? That or the Cap is an Alliance Fed.

The Kid and the other guy took off to track down some gorram sniper lady. I got stuck with Mr. Fancypants with tracking down the old crew we worked with on the Bank Job. Met them at a bar, got everything squared away, sampled a couple drinks they had and had a nap.

Woke up getting out of a van, wearing coveralls. Fancypants mentioned something about a trunkline, or hardline I don’t know I’m not a gorram scientist.

The Deadman's Treasure

The coffers of the goodship Shadow had been enlarged by a recent turn of fortune where corrupt and scurrilous knaves had hookwinked an entire colony into believing that the war of unifcation was still raging across the stars. Oh, these colonials! Such a refreshing lack of guile!

Captain Reed, through mysterious connections of her own, has begun repairs and refurbishing on the Shadow. In the mean time she has allowed the crew time to relax upon some planet I haven’t heard the name of. I have discovered, through my own adventures, that the men of this planet are awful at poker and possess short tempers. The young Miss Rosebottom has disappeared with the Mechanic to watch movies. Mr. Wei-Fong had also disappeared, mentioning something about finding companionship in the various fleshpots of this city.

Our relaxation was cut short, however, when Captain Reed summoned us back for a mission! No rest for the wicked and in this case our mission was wholly suited to my unique skills. Through my own considerable abilities I took the visage of a doddering nouveau riche gentleman and quite literally danced my way through guard and vault to obscond with the prize, a data device owned by some sort of local politico.

The captain, for some reason, felt it necessary to make contact with the gentleman at some sort of political rally. It was noisome and altogether boorish, however let it not be said that Flynn Eastwood lacks the common touch. Despite myself I found the festive atmosphere to be quite agreeable. At least I was until a great shriek pierced the crowd. It was our Captain, having fainted dead away at the sight of prodigious amounts of gore that had once been our hapless politco’s head! Some fiend had pulped him with a snipers bullet!

It was a call to adventure and only one man is brave enough to answer… Flynn Eastwood!

The False Alliance

The crew picks up a signal from a little known planet. Upon arriving, they discover that there is an Alliance occupied base, and everyone there seems to think the unification war is still raging.

It’s uncovered that the Major in charge of the occupying forces has been faking attacks on the town in order to keep the townsfolk pacified. Him and his lieutenants have been forcing the townspeople to unwittingly farm raw ingredients for powerful narcotics, which are being sold on the black market.

After storming a storage warehouse, they find and capture Lieutenant Fisher, who is the mastermind behind the drug operation. Following some convincing, he points the crew to a secret stash of valuable, and they get away from the now-liberated town with a ship full of drugs and pockets full of money. Not bad for a single day’s work.

The Morrison Mining Co. Job

The crew takes a job from Marion Morrison, formerly the owner of the Morrison Mining company in a town called Hannibal on Sweethome. The job is straight forward, but difficult, and involves stealing a shipment of precious metals from the new owner, Etienne du Bujac, who is later revealed to have played a part of putting Morrison in jail, and stealing her company from under her.

In the process, the crew helps rescue the foreman’s daughter, starts a miner uprising, kills two thirds of the Teng Sisters, and captures du Bujac himself. A pretty good days work, all in all.

The celebrations were cut short, unfortunately, as it’s revealed that du Bujac, and thus the mining company, is heavily in debt to a man named Niska. After being contacted by one of Niska’s agents, Kostya, they are given a choice to either take on the debt themselves, or pass it on to Marion. They choose the former…
